Serendipity
Catherine BASSETT
Born 1978 in London and brought up in Norfolk and Birmingham, England.
Currently studying in her final year at Middlesex University for a BA (Hons) in Sonic Arts.
Her area of interest in sonic art lies in real time sound manipulation using custom built gestual interfaces in performance.
Catherine has developed her own specific gestual sensor control using light sensors. This has been used for a performance at Cream at Liverpool as part of the International Symposium of Electronic Arts 1998.
A controller now in development explores a flat palm motion gesture with finger triggers.
Catherine is intensely involved in creating interactive and installation art with a collective called "Extractor" alongside Martin Robinson, Andrew Deakin and Vicki Spong. Extractors are concerned with extending the clubbing experience to meet Interactive Sound worlds.
May 1999 - Catherine performed at 333 club, London and at The Zodiac in Oxford with Extractor.
Catherine will continue to study on Middlesex Universitys new MA Sonic Arts and will research in interactive sound art and instructions.
Vicki SPONG
Born 1978 in Somerset, brought up in Newcastle, England.
Also studying for a Sonic Arts degree at Middlesex University.
Summer 1997 - Vicki performed scratch DJing with musicians at the Edinburgh Festival.
September 1998 - interactive sound performance with Catherine Bassett at the International Symposium of Electronic Arts.
1998 - co-presented and drove a lunchtime radio show in UCL radio RARE FM.
Vicki is very interested in location recording and her recordings of New York City in 1997 have provided a basis for most of her sound pieces.
Another interest is vinyl artistry which she performs also with Extractor (see above) - recent performances include Off Centre @ 333, London and at Head On @The Zodiac, Oxford.
Currently working on sound for a degree fashion show June 1999. Has contributed to a Sonic Art department CD "Sonic Sponge".
Knut AUTERMANN
Born 1972 in Hagen Germany.
He has studied at the Universities of Hamburg and Postdam.
Knut mound to England in early 1998 and since then:
he has studied audio engineering at the SAE Technology College in London.
while at SAE he recorded several free improvisation and electroacoustic groups (a.o. Morphogenesis, Caroline Kraabel + John Edwuards);
Knut has contributed to the production of CD Nocturnal Coincidence with Dennis Austin (percussion) and Graham Wright (saxophone) including playing (guitar, live electronics), recording, mixing, mastering and cover design;
he has worked for radio station RESONANCE FM (live broadcast engineering and production of ID material) and NOW FM as part of NOW98 festival in Nottingham (as radio artist in collaboration with performance artist Stephen Harding for the live radio performance Fresh Sounds of Today;
he has participated as a singer in the performance of Cornelius Cardews "The Great Learning - Paragraph 7" led by Michael Parsons at the Queen Elizabeth Hall (London) as part of London Musicians Collective Festival;
he has performed solo and in various free improvisation sessions.
Knut has created and conducted a piece for London Skyscraper orchestra (now the London Improvisers Orchestra) based on smell triggering;
He is a member of the transdisciplinary group CLAC, which includes electronic and acoustic music and dance.
